Call for Nominations for Honorary Foreign Member, Ichthyology
A Committee to propose nominations for a new Honorary Foreign Member in Ichthyology (Lynne Parenti, Chair; Bill Eschmeyer; Joe Nelson; and Melanie Stiassny) has been appointed by President Savitsky to fill the vacancy left by the death of Colin Patterson (England) last year.
The Committee is charged with proposing at least two nominees for the position. The nominations will be presented to the Board of Governors in the form of a ballot, and, upon approval by the BOG, the ballot will be used for election of one Honorary Foreign Member, Ichthyology, at the Annual Business Meeting.
"Foreign" means exclusive of Canada, Mexico and the United States of America. Criteria for selection of an Honorary Foreign Member, Ichthyology, include: (1) Outstanding world eminence and record of accomplishment in research in ichthyology; (2) National representation (other conditions being equal, choice of an HFM should be spread among as many countries as possible); and (3) Interest in, helpfulness to, or evidence of cooperation with colleagues in ASIH countries (Canada, Mexico and the USA).
Please send the name, position, short biographical sketch, including description of research accomplishments (that will be used in preparation of the ballot) and curriculum vitae (if possible) of your nominee no later than 15 February 1999 to Lynne Parenti, via e-mail (parentil@nmnh.si.edu) or post (Division of Fishes MRC 159, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. 20560-0159). Nominations will be kept confidential.
