Position Overview:
A Collection Manager is responsible for the care and management of one or more research
Collection Centers. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the day to day care of the
collections, processing all incoming and outgoing specimens and loans, participation in collecting,
preserving, documenting, sorting, identifying and maintaining collections, and participation in
public, exhibits, and educational programs. The Collection Manager supervises other technical
and volunteer staff as assigned, and is the liaison between the curators and technicians and
between the Collection Center and the Registrar. The Collection Manager should be able to make
independent decisions based on Museum, Section, and Unit guidelines in the management of
collections. The Collection Manager in Herpetology possesses current knowledge of research in
the field, including trends and techniques in collection-based research; has extensive taxonomic
knowledge, functions as the primary liaison between researchers in the field and the Curators, may
participate in ongoing or original research and attend professional meetings to represent the
Museum, Section, and Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibility for processing loan requests.

Maintains and supervises use of specimens.

Documents and processes all incoming specimens for addition to the collection.

Participates in the planning, acquisition, and restoration of display materials, and may participate
in the maintenance of temporary or permanent exhibits.

Participates in Education and other public program activities of the Museum, including but not
limited to assisting with exhibits, presentation of public lectures, instruction of Museum classes,
and presentation of collection resources.

Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, and at
least 1 year of technical experience in herpetology involving the collection, identification or
classification, preparation, and conservation of specimens for study, research, or exhibition.
