POSITION VACANCY
CURATOR OF ICHTHYOLOGY
The Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia seeks an
outstanding systematic ichthyologist for a position at the Assistant or
Associate CURATOR level. The Academy of Natural Sciences is an
internationally recognized scientific research institution with an
ichthyolological collection of over 176,000 lots. Collection strengths are
in freshwater Neotropical and marine Caribbean fishes. Our facilities
include a fully functional molecular systematics laboratory, x-ray and
darkroom facility, and histology laboratory. Requirements: (1) Ph.D. in
biology or related discipline; (2) demonstrated research skills in
systematics or evolutionary biology of fishes, preferably with a research
emphasis on neotropical freshwater fishes; (3) ability to establish and
maintain an independent research program; (4) willingness to share
curatorial responsibilities for ichthyology collections; (5) ability to
attract funding to support research and collections; (6) willingness to
participate in public education and museum programs. This position
includes opportunities for adjunct appointment and graduate students at
Drexel University and other nearby institutions.
